I'm Autumn Brown Garibay. I'm a parent of three, a 15-year San Franciscan, a life-long Californian, and a candidate for the SFUSD Board of Education.
My three kids attend Title 1 schools. My oldest attends Lick Middle, my younger two are at Flynn Elementary. I live in the Mission with my family. For the last several years, I've helped lead the PTA at my kids' school, served on the Parent Leadership Council of the San Francisco Parent Coalition, and shown up to Board of Education meetings to advocate for the kids in my school and others.
I came to this work because I'm a parent who reads the data, asks the next question, listens to the educators and social workers inside our schools, and refuses to accept that some kids in San Francisco get an excellent education and others don't.
WHY IāM RUNNING
I'm running because the kids in our schools right now cannot wait, and SFUSD has spent too long passing this responsibility from one board to the next.
The board's job is to hold SFUSD to its own values. That means staying focused on outcomes, demanding real implementation, and being honest about who is still being missed. It means asking hard questions and refusing to get lost in process while children wait for the system to get organized.
I want a San Francisco where families don't have to choose between staying here and educating their kids well, where every neighborhood school is one parents can trust, and where choosing public school feels like a values statement.
